A true local yokel, Kirby grew up in Old Greenwich and Riverside, and graduated from Greenwich High School in 1994. Kirby then went on to get her B.A. in French at Dartmouth College and subsequently earned an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and an Ed.D. in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College (TC), Columbia University. Since earning her doctorate in 2009, Kirby has been Lecturer of Linguistics and Language Education at TC, where she teaches courses in second language assessment, language pedagogy, and research methods. She sits on the Board of the International Language Testing Association, the Editorial Board of Language Assessment Quarterly, and the Board of Directors of the John Brown Cook Foundation. Living in Riverside with husband, Mark, and three kids, Kirby always makes time for her ongoing mission of finding the perfect dress sweatpants.
